Recruiting Myths
Myth 1
Only the most successful high school athletes can compete in college.
Reality
High school athletes at varying levels of achievement can find the right fit due to numerous options in D1, D2, D3 or Junior College.
Myth 2
Recuitment only occurs when coaches initiate contact with athletes via letter, text or call.
Reality
While some programs may reach out, many coaches are looking for proactive athletes to reach out to them first.
Myth 3
Coaches will walk you through sequenced steps of the recruiting process once you've made contact.
Reality
Coaches are incredibly busy, and the process will vary from program to program, so no universal roadmap for athletes exists.

Meet Brody Barkan, Founder of InStride Counseling
“As a recruited high school track and field athlete, my parents and I used what little available information and support we could find to navigate the difficult and fuzzy process. I founded InStride Counseling to provide athletes and parents with critical information about the myths and realities of NCAA athletics, tips to help avoid typical pitfalls along the way, and tools to navigate the recruitment process with clarity and success.”
